Fourteenth Meeting - Reunion

It was our fourteenth meeting on 14th January 2009 with the theme “Reunion”. The theme was related to us, students, as we were reunited again after the semester break. The word of the day was “Yoke”, meaning : to closely connect two ideas, people or things. Example of the word usage: As we were yoked together for decades, I didn’t feel threatened by him.

TheToastmaster of the Evening (TME) was our President, CC Kimmy Foo. She explained to us about brief history of Toastmasters and the manuals. She also emphasized on our officers and members mission to achieve the President Distinguished Club for the session 2008/2009. We are working for it and we will definitely try our best to achieve it. After TME completed the introduction session, the floor was taken over by our Table Topics Master, TM Teo Bee Guan.

TM Teo Bee Guan came completely prepared with the world map consisting of main continents. The participants would have to choose a continent in order to receive the question. Our Table Topics Speakers were

1. Fun Mun Wah

2. Ras Hadi

3. Yee Sin

4. Mahathir

5. Kimmy Foo

Bee Guan really made us to think deeply on some aspects as the questions were quite challenging. The Table Topics Evaluation was done by DTM Soh Fong Wai from the D’Utama Toastmasters Club. We learned some new things on doing impromptu speech, especially the past, present and future method.

Then, it was the Project Speech session. The first speaker was TM Grace Rebekah, CC Project No.3: Force of Attraction. Well, it was really an exciting topic, nothing to do with science or physics, as we would be expecting at first. The force of attraction that Grace was actually mentioning was between opposite genders – the ideal characters of a person that the opposite gender would be looking for. Higher grading was given for boys who have deep voices and girls with high pitches.

Next, was speech by TM Nyuk Jet, CC Project No.6: Comment on Coffee. Nyuk Jet demonstrated on how people would react if the coffee is not good or bitter. Different people would have different way of reaction towards coffee, some may like it, some don’t, some would appraise the coffee maker, and some would just throw the cup of coffee.

As the third speaker, TM Rishi Ganesh gave the speech on CC Project No.6: The Story of an Invitation. He did a storytelling about three female characters – two girls and an aunt, who showed their generosity, sacrifice, and friendship.

The General Evaluator, DTM Soh Fong Wai, took control of the session for an overall evaluation of the meeting. Our speech evaluators were TM Teo Bee Guan from our own UM TMC, CC Tej Tze Chien from Midvalley Toastmasters Club and DTM Lee Swee Seng from the MIM KL Toastmasters Club. Our role players were TM Khairil (Ah Counter), TM Grace Rebekah (Grammarian), and TM Ras Hadi (Time Keeper).

Thank you to all evaluators and role players.

Next was the time for awards. It would be a different and improved award giving session from this meeting onwards because we will be giving out prizes for Best Table Topics Speaker, Best Project Speech Speaker, and Best Speech Evaluator. That’s shows a better chance and higher probability of winning awards for the members and guests.
