The word of the day was 'Auspicious' - meaning: a positive and successful future. For example, "They won their first match of the season 5-1 which was an auspicious beginning".
The meeting was started at 4.50 pm with President's welcoming speech. Our Toastmaster of the Evening was TM Bee Guan with a brief introduction on the origin of Lantern Festival.
TM Rishi was the Table Topics Master of the evening. There were six table topics speakers in the session and all of them did a great job. Some of the questions were - 'Do you like mooncakes and why?', 'What will be the difference between a chocolate cake and a mooncake?', and 'How do you celebrate the lantern festival?'. There was also an imaginative bonus question - 'What do you think will happen if the Earth doesn't have a moon?'. Now that could be a tough one. But could you see a similarity if compared to previous table topics sessions? Yes, we can't stop mentioning about the food. The past - ABC & ice cream, the present - chocolate cake & mooncake. I would say it was a co-incidence. The Table Topics Evaluator was DTM Vincent Hor with evaluations on areas to be improved by the table topics speakers.
Next were the project speeches as the following:
1) CC Project 2 - "Speak Out Your Mind" by TM Pang
2) CC Project 8 - " My Journey to Macau" by TM Sze Wan
3) CC Project 8 - "The Indic Branch" by TM Kimmy Foo
Actually we learned a lot from the three speeches, how to speak out of our mind, the condition of the 'take-off terminal', and to count from 1 to 10 in Tamil. Well done project speakers. Dear President, just a thought, can we have FREE night classes to learn more about the Indian languages from you?
Thank you to our General Evaluator - Mr Renganathan from Ernst & Young TMC, our Speech Evaluators - DTM Vincent Hor from MAICSA TMC, ACB Kian Yoong from Deloitte KassimChan TMC and TM Kimmy Foo from our own UM TMC.
We also had our alumni with us in the meeting - Lee Fooi, Min En, and Sze Wan. We were glad to meet up our senior members of UM TMC. Looking forward to see you all in the upcoming meetings. Not to forget to bring together other alumni members.
Well done Terrence for becoming our time keeper. It would be the first experience for you of taking up the role player in Toastmasters.
Finally, it was the Best Table Topics Award......drum roll...drum roll....(eventhough we do not have drums)....
STEPHANIE
