It’s our ninth meeting of the semester 1, 2008 / 2009 on 24th September 2008. The theme of the day was ‘Music’. The word of the day was ‘Harmonious’ – meaning: having a pleasant tune or harmony controlled. Example of sentence: The harmonious classical music has inspired people from one generation to the next generation. This meeting was a special meeting as there was a memorable event that happened later on.
Our Sergeant-of –Arms, TM Grace Kang called for meeting to order at 4.53pm. Our Toastmaster of the Evening was TM Deborah Chow. She introduced the theme and the role players before handing over the floor to the Table Topics Master – TM Teo Bee Guan. For the first time in the Table Topic Session, we actually had the music being played and it was a very innovative idea of Bee Guan. To choose the Table Topics Speakers, a hat was passed as the music was being played. The person who was holding the hat when the music stopped was the Table Topics Speaker. We had four Table Topics Speakers who participated from the members and guests (and yes, they were the lucky ones). The Table Topics Evaluator, CC Khoo Suat Hong, then evaluated on the way of improvement for all our Table Topics Speakers.
Next, it was time for the main agenda – the Project Speeches, as the following:
1. CC Project #3 – “Beware – It’s Live” – by TM Rishi Ganesh
2. CC Project #4 – “A dedication” – by TM Grace Kang
3. CC Project #10 – “Suicide is an Escape” – by TM Kimmy Foo
TM Rishi explained about the interview session while TM Grace Kang and TM Kimmy inspired us on their life experiences. Do you still remember about the memorable event that I wrote at the beginning of this report? Yes, it was the finishing speech of the Competent Communicator Manual for TM Kimmy Foo (or I would say, CC Kimmy Foo). The next two paragraphs of this report is a special dedication to CC Kimmy.
TM KIMMY is now CC KIMMY
Kimmy is our beloved President of UM Toastmasters Club and she is the first member to receive the Competent Communicator (CC) in our club for this new term. She was on a fast track and completed her remaining seven speeches in just 3 months. We, all of the members of UM TMC, are very proud of her. Keep on leading the way, Kimmy.

Kimmy inspired us all on the topic of suicide. Yes, you are right, Kimmy. Suicide is NOT the best solution for any problems, (even if we feel depressed up to the maximum, we must not take this decision). There are always the loved ones and friends who are willing to share the burden with us. Let’s take it as a challenge of life. Say ‘NO’ to suicide.
Thus, any member who wants two paragraphs in the report dedicated just for them, please finish up your Competent Communicator Manual as fast as possible. Dear President, is it alright if 4 paragraphs dedicated for me when I got the CC later on?
Then, our General Evaluator of the evening, CTM CL Dr. Sharon (from Womens Institute of Management TMC) took over the meeting. Our speech evaluators were CC Khoo Suat Hong (The Malaysian Institue of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators TMC), our very own, TM Deborah (from UM TMC) and ACS CL Renganathan (Ernst & Young TMC). Our roles players were TM Fun, TM Ras Hadi, and TM Pang. Dear Stephanie, we would not miss you out. Thank you all for the support.
Not to forget our honorable guests Prof. Madya Dr. Umaiyah Hj Umar, Puan Rosenun Che Sof and Miss Maria Cristiana (our UM lecturers) who have made their effort to attend our meeting. We were really happy to have our lecturers in the meeting. Thank you.
Finally it was the award giving session…..The Best Table Topics Speaker goes to….drum roll…..drum roll…..
