International Speech & Table Topic Contest Area P1

Dear Members,

Below is the invitation that we have received from Telekom Malaysia Toastmasters Club :

Ladies & gentlemen,

On behalf of Telekom Malaysia Toastmaster Club, we are please to inform that on Wednesday, 17 th March 2010 our club is hosting Area P1 contest for International Speech and Table Topic Contest! Please come and give your utmost support to your toastmaster friends!! Bring your friends and family too.

Table Topics Contest

Table Topics Contest cum sixth meeting of the semester was held on 3rd March 2010. The meeting was started by the Sergeant-of-Arms, TM Sui Peng, on time as per scheduled - 5.30pm.

After the welcoming speech from our President, the Table Topics Contest was started. The judges were

1) DTM Dr Devi
2) ACS CL Vijaya
3) ACB CL Nisha

Let me introduce to you our guest. ACS CL Vijaya is the visiting Toastmaster all the way from California. She will be staying in UM until approximately 15th April. We would definitely like her to come to all of our meetings, it's a previlige for us.

The participants were (random order)

1) Hadi
2) Arissa
3) Wynlyn
4) Deborah
5) Khairil Nizam
6) Sui Peng

I would say that all the participants were not nervous at all. Right? Each of the participants were given different questions so that everyone can see their friends' performance.

Here are the results....drum roll....drum roll...

1) Deborah Chow - Champion
2) Wynlyn - 1st runner up
3) Khairil Nizam - 2nd runner up

Next was the project speeches as follows:

1) CC Project #4 - My Favourite Artiste by TM Arissa
2) CC Project #4 - Cap Trade by TM Sook Ching
3) CC Project #8 - Origamy by TM Khairil Nizam

Our General Evaluator was DTM Dr Devi and the project speech evaluators were as follows:

1) TM Fun
2) ACB CL Deborah Chow

Our other role players were:

1) Ah Counter - TM Sui Peng
2) Grammarian - TM Rishi
3) Time Keeper = TM Hadi

Thus, congrats to Deborah Chow. She will be representing our UM TMC to the Area Contest of Area W5. The photos will be posted soon, if we still have it, hopefully...

Young Toastmasters Outing Trip

Young Toastmasters Outing Trip to Pulau Ketam will be held on

It's a jointly organized activity by Unitar Toastmasters Club and HELP UC Toastmasters Club. The requirement - you just have to be ready to have fun!!!

If you are interested, it is a must that you drop an e-mail to umtoastmaster@gmail.com with your name and handphone number before this Saturday at 5pm. We will contact you to confirm the attendance so that we wouldn't miss you out on the day of trip.

Phoenix Toastmasters Speech Contest

Dear Members,

Phoenix Toastmasters Club will be having their International Speech and Table Topics Contest next Monday. The following are the details of the contest:

Date : 08 March 2010 (Monday)

Time : 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Venue : Uptown Conference Centre Level 12 Tower A Uptown 5 No. 5 Jalan SS21/39, Damansara Uptown 47400 Petaling Jaya.

(Fee: RM10.00 per pax and refreshments will be provided. For Judges and Roleplayers are waived)

The role player as timer is still available. If you are interested to be the timer, please e-mail us at umtoastmaster@gmail.com before Sunday night.

Fifth Meeting - Valentine

Since it has been quite some time (more than a week) after the meeting has been held, I need to admit that I have forgotten on certain things. So, shall I make the report a little short?

Certainly not!!! Why should I do that when the theme of the day is Valentine. The word of the day is 'love' - Emotions related to a sense of strong affection and attachment. The meeting started at exactly 5.30 pm with our SAA, TM Sui Peng calling the meeting to order. Did the President came to the meeting? Let me think for a while...Yes!! She came and she gave the presidential welcoming speech.


The Toastmaster of the Evening was TM Khairulnizam, for the first time. Yes, a little bit struggle here and there and there you go - a smooth flow soon. The Table Topics Master, ACB CL, Deborah Chow, gave questions related to the theme. The Table Topics participants are :

(a) Rishi

(b) Heng Jing Yi

(c) Levine

(d) Sui Peng


Before I go on, I better introduce to you to of our guests who came to the meeting that day - ACB CL Ng Lay Choo (Sai Toastmasters Club) and CC CL Levine (MII Toastmasters Club).


Next were the project speeches. The speakers were as the following :

(a) TM Arissa - CC Project#3 - Brain Differences

(b) TM Khairulnizam - CC Project#7 - Muay Thai

(c) TM Ras Hadi - CC Project#8 - Migration

(d) TM Jing YI - CC Project#8 - sorry forgotten your title, but something about recycle bins.

and a superb speech by our guest

(e) ACB CL Ng Lay Choo - Advanced Speech#3 - Habits of Highly Effective People.



Arissa talked about the difference in men's and women's thinking and I really enjoyed it for a reason - she praises men...haha...Khairulnizam showed a new defense tool called Muay Thai. Ras Hadi talked about migration of people and I think Jing Yi should have brought the recycle bins to show it to us. I know it's heavy.

UM TMC's Table Topics Contest

Dear members and guests,

UM Toastmasters club will be having a table topics contest (TTC) as part of the International Speech and Table Topics Contest . Every member is welcome to participate in the table topics contest.

The contest provides a wonderful chance and opportunity for members to shine at table topics. We welcome everyone to showcase their speaking talents and capabilities. Everyone who takes part is already a winner by showcasing determination and courage. The contest also provide a wonderful opportunities for members to learn from the best.

Guests who are not Toastmaster members are also more than welcome to attend the contest, as it provides a wonderful insight into the Toastmasters club.

The following are the details of the contest:

Date : 3rd March 2010 (Wednesday)

Time : 5.15 pm

Venue : UWA room (first floor of Rumah Universiti/beside Bgn Peperiksaan).

Those interested in participating are required to provide their full name and contact number and submit direct to rhr_2004_1988@hotmail.com .

There will be no door fee - entrance is free.
